I will use this rubric for the participation in the first half of the week. This will be used to assess all of the different pieces of the debate. Each student should have equal participation in the campaign.
DBQ Assessment

On the fourth day, the students will take everything they have learned from their fellow students and write an essay on which candidate they would vote for if they were participating in the election of 1860.
End Discussion Assessment
I will use the participation part of the debate rubric to grade each student on what they think the significance of the election was. The discussion should lead us to discussing the path to the Civil War and why it all began.
